Professional Qualifications

Couples therapy is a highly specialized discipline and requires years of post graduate training to refine and perfect. This is very important, as one would go to a cardiologist for a serious cardiac problem and not to a family doctor . Couples therapy training is equally as specialized.

Ms. Rubin is a licensed clinical social worker who has worked with couples, individuals and families for over 25 years. She has also run groups and taught workshops during her entire career. She is a clinical supervisor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine. She also supervises clinicians from the Grove School (a residential treatment center in Madison, CT) and several therapists from the New Haven area, teaching them the art of couples therapy.

In addition to her post graduate experience Ms. Rubin has trained extensively in the specialty of marital therapy with well respected practitioners in the field, including Dr. David Schnarch, master therapist and author of several books and articles regarding couples, most notably Passionate Marriage and Resurrecting Sex and Drs. James Maddock and Noel Larsen, professors and training therapists in the Department of Family and Marital Therapy at the University of Minnesota.
